Mimmo Paladino, Ex voto (2014)

The chapel houses an installation of silvered-bronze shoes fixed to the wall. The work, by Mimmo Paladino, a Transavantgarde artist, recalls the ex voto offerings. Paladino’s interpretation is a tribute to the tradition of La Scala theatre’s ballet étoiles who frequented the chapel. These votive images are rooted in the popular tradition, not only intended for the helping figure, but also as a testimony of the miraculous recovery of a limb.
