Becoming light
Specially designed to overlook the apse, the installation for the Church of San Fedele was created by Alberto Biasi, a master of optical-dynamic art. It is a permanent work entitled Becoming Light, in which the luminescent surfaces of the walls become a visible memory of our passage.
The viewer is invited to press a phosphorescent button that activates a Wood lamp, illuminating the space. His shadow is thus projected onto the wall where it will remain imprinted for a few moments before becoming light again. The completed performance thus becomes a symbol of life.
We must decide to make truth about ourselves through that light, symbol of the divine, which projects our shadows, our very life. However, after a few seconds, the light remains and the shadow disappears. It is as if we have been definitively taken in by that light that is the very destiny of our existence. This is a simple but powerful message, a way to speak of the hope we so desperately need: to become light.
This is probably the first truly interactive installation ever created in a sacred space.
Operation
1. Press the phosphorescent button located on the left to turn on the light.
2. Quickly stand in front of the back wall of the small room and assume the desired pose.
3. Stand still for a few moments while staying very close to the wall.
4. When the light goes out, step out of the space to observe the shadow produced on the wall.
